Weekly mentor meeting
"Mentoring helped me develop a sense of leadership and understanding that has translated over to my own job."
" This program allows individuals to find what they really like in the workforce and strive to reach that achievement. The honor of mentoring someone trying to find themselves in the workforce is a special moment."
"I loved hearing my mentee's challenges, how she faced them, what she was learning - and then having the opportunity to discuss how this all can help her future path be better and brighter."
Thank you for your interest in serving as a mentor for the Summer Jobs Program (SJP)!
We appreciate your investment in helping develop the next generation of local employees!
-
Mentors will be positive and professional role models, help students reflect on their work experience, and support students as they explore future school and work options.
-
SJP mentors are not the student's supervisor; mentors support the student and the work-based learning experience.
-
Mentors will meet with students at least 5 times during the summer (early June to mid-August)
-
Mentors must be at least 21 years old and pass a background check
-
A mentor orientation will be held in May, lasting 1-1.5 hours
The Summer Jobs Program Mentor Handbook outlines expectations and includes ideas for weekly conversations.
