COLS 111: CAREER DEVELOPMENT & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS (1 Credit)
 

Miles Community College will offer a free 1-credit Career Development and Interpersonal Skills course to students enrolled in the Summer Jobs Program, regardless of their geographic location. Topics covered include career exploration, effective communication, teamwork, time management, creative thinking, professionalism, and conflict resolution. Students will create a resume and cover letter and develop interviewing and networking skills.  

 

The class will run for 8 weeks (May 8 - June 30), with 2 hours of class time per week. The class will meet online from 6:30-7:30 pm on Monday and Wednesday.

COMX 115: INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION (3 Credits) 

 

Designed specifically for high school students who are working while learning, this special COMX 115 course dives into interpersonal communication skills through the lens of the workplace. Assignments throughout the summer ask students to reflect on and apply course information to their experiences at work.  Topics include culture, identity, perception, language, nonverbal communication, listening, emotions, and conflict. 

The class will run for 6 weeks (June 19 - July 28) with 2 hours of class time per week. The class will meet online from 5:30-7:30pm on Wednesday evenings.
